Killington Climate

Killington is home to a continental climate. The summers are short and humid with temperatures rarely reaching 90 degrees and may dip as low as the 50s. Temperatures begin to drop below this point around the end of August. Fall is the most beautiful time of year when temperatures change and the leaves turn creating rich and bold forests of brilliant oranges, golden yellows, and bright reds. Winter brings average temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees with warm days rising as high as 40 and nights dropping below zero. Snow falls are heavy and the high humidity makes the winters seem even colder. Spring is usually late and brings temperatures that can still be considered chilly by any standard.

One thing is for sure the skier will treasure the experience of skiing down or through the majestic Vermont landscape.

Killington Travel Tips

The climate of Killington allows visitors to enjoy different outdoor activities year round. Temperatures can be extreme here; always make sure you dress warmly enough and dress in layers so you can take off and put on clothes as needed. The temperatures dip down in the evenings and can warm up considerably on sunny days. Whether participating in winter or summer sport you should avoid exceeding your physical fitness level, a pulled muscle could put a damper on your vacation. The sun can burn even in the winter and your lips are more prone to chapping, be sure to protect your skin with sunscreen and your lips with lip balm. When participating in outdoor sport and not going with a group or being directed by a guide, you should always know where you are going, make sure the route you have chosen is safe, check the weather conditions, and never go alone. Before you set out whether it be hiking, fishing, skiing, or any other outdoor activity you should always let a reliable person know where you are going and when you will return. Do not deviate from the itinerary and make sure the person will notify the proper authorities if you do not return. The area is vast so if you stray too far off it may be difficult if not impossible for someone to find you if you get lost. Make sure you always take a first aid kit, water and some non perishable staples. Killington is a safe place to visit, but it’s still a good idea to use traveler’s checks instead of cash. Do not to leave valuables in your car. Even though Killington is small the area caters to visitors from all over and there is ATM access at several locations around town.
